How to check safety products for compliance

As a professional working in construction, utilities or road works, there are several safety and compliance regulations you should be aware of to help keep you, your workers and the public safe. In this guide, we’ll explain some of the key pieces of legislation and which Oxford Plastics products are compliant with them.

ADA Compliance: Americans with Disabilities Act

The Americans with Disabilities Act is a civil rights law that prevents the discrimination of individuals with disabilities in public life. The act was established in 1990 and ensures equal access, opportunities, and participation for people with disabilities. As well as covering the rights of employment and state and Government services, the Americans with disabilities act also covers;

ADA Public Accommodations

The ADA requires that public places be accessible for individuals with disabilities by providing ramps, accessible entrances, accessible restrooms, and other accommodations.

ADA Transportation Accommodations

Accommodation for public transport including buses, trams and trains should be accessible to individuals with disabilities. This includes accommodations made for access to waiting platforms as well as the vehicles and transport facilities themselves.

How is the LowPro 15/10 ADA compliant

ADA compliance means that ramps must be at a smooth 1:12 gradient to keep them accessible, previously this meant that contractors had to cold patch asphalt to steel plates to ensure compliance. An easy alternative includes installing the LowPro 15/10, with modular infill strips and linking ramps that are ADA-fully compliant. The two-man install also saves time and does not require machinery to install.

OSHA Standards (Occupational Safety and Health Administration

OSHA standards are safety regulations for the workplace. Site managers need to follow OSHA standards to ensure that employees are safe and protected against falls, hazard communication and more.

DOT Regulations (Department of Transportation)

The DOT oversees multiple modes of transport including highways, aviation, and rail. Their regulations are designed to ensure the safety and efficiency of transport systems.

Highway Safety and Traffic Regulations

The DOT provide a number of rules and guideline for road construction, maintenance and traffic control. The guidelines include rules for construction and maintenance techniques used when building or carrying out roadworks.

DOT Compliant products

The New York Department of Transportation has approved the LowPro 23/05 for use to comply with the HS20-44 standard, this standard highlights the capacity to handle heavy-duty traffic loads of up to 97,000lbs. Making it a perfect match for use in high-traffic areas, and on construction sites.
