Product training day: Avalon Barrier

Here at Oxford Plastics, we have been putting sustainability at the forefront with our product training days. The aim of these sessions is to showcase new products as well as hosting demonstrations to educate our clients on how they can re-use and repair goods. By providing expert advice, not only can we save our customers money, but we can also help make better choices for the environment.

The Avalon Barrier has been the key focus of our most recent product training day, focussing specifically on the ‘Right to Repair’. We’ve been working with Speedy Services depots – providing tutorials on how to restore these safety barriers and educating them around this notion of repairing rather than replacing.

What is an Avalon Barrier?

Firstly, it’s important to understand exactly what an Avalon Barrier is. The Avalon Barrier is one of our most versatile products and is suited for pedestrian application. This barrier is used for street works, excavation, events, and utility sites, and additional ballasting is available, such as the StrongWall Ballast, that can be added for stability and different widths, such as: 2m, 1m, and 0.5m variants.

The lightweight material of the Avalon Barrier means that it can be easily transported and stored -our barrier is also compliant with the Chapter 8 legislation and is both suited to indoor and outdoor settings.

UK Business Development Manager, Robert Whiteley, commented on this training day:

“I have been promoting the Avalon Barrier to Speedy on the benefits of its durability and repairability, and have been able to train their operations staff on repairing barrier feet. This means that they can replace damaged feet instead of replacing the whole barrier when they are damaged, which is good for the environment and saves the end user money long-term.”

Avalon Foot replacement is a quick and easy 1-person task, it takes about 10 seconds – it’s beneficial for our customers to understand this so they can request repair equipment rather than a product for replacement. We’ve put the Avalon repair instructions in this handy guide

Benefits of the Avalon Barrier

One of the biggest benefits of this safety barrier is its repairability – the barrier is able to be easily repaired which overall aids the longevity of the product. Our training days mainly focused on teaching staff how to repair barrier feet, as 90% of barrier failures are caused by the feet being damaged. However, here at Oxford Plastics, we supply replacement feet and reflective strips for all our Avalon Barriers – further minimising costs for our customers.

The Avalon foot replacement is an incredibly easy one-person task, similarly, switching the reflective strip on this barrier is also a one-person job. This makes the whole process of restoring Avalon barriers effortless, with the notion of repairing rather than replacing also making a significant impact on the environment. That’s why it’s so beneficial for our customers to understand this – so they can request repair equipment rather than a product for replacement.

Oxford Plastics training days

During this successful training day, we were able to:

  • Showcase new products
  • Demonstrate installation of products
  • Explain about repairing of products rather than replacement
  • Provide expert advice
  • Explain about previous product migrations to new solutions (steel plates to composite road plates, for example)

Now that the operations staff at Speedy Services are trained on barrier repair, the depots can drastically decrease their ecological impact due to waste and save significant costs.
